"They used to talk about my clothes and what I would wear
but now "they" are no longer here
I had to cut them out my life like a piece of hanging thread
I have no more time to waste it's time to get back to the bread
I can't survive alone off bread that is what the Bible told me
You got to feed your mind and soul too
make sure they're not hungry
Hungry or thirsty for the greater things in life
Searching for love not just wanting to be a wife
Self love "they" said that needs to come first
I started believing it more when I got less than I deserved
Once I got back in the word the word of God that is
I found my identity and remembered I was always HIS!"

Herstory
Joi-lyn Thornton is my name and fashion is the game. I am a mother, fashion stylist, artist, photographer, thrifter, poet, and more! Fashion is natural to me. My grandmother was the one who passed the love of fashion through generations. She was a seamstress and her daughter (my mother) has a degree in Fashion Design. I am here to continue the legacy. When I was little, I didn't have much of a fashion sense. My mom liked to put me in puffy dresses with long fur coats to match (definitely in style these days). Back then I was a major tomboy who liked to wear my brother's baggy clothes. I was not interested in looking like Cinderella. In fifth grade, I actually wrote a rap about "fashion being my passion." It wasn't until I was in High School that I became a girly girl. My mom would take me to consignment shops (stores that sold name brand, gently used clothing at discounted prices) to find clothes. I was amazed at what I could get at these stores for such a low prices. I was finding Ralph Lauren, Coach purses, Dooney & Burke purses, and one day I found a nice Christian Dior suit for more that 80% off retail price. My mom's words are always "try it on." Until you try it on you will never know how good it looks on you!
My mom passes on her secret to me and I want to help those of you who love to shop, find nice items and find them at good prices. . Fashion is my way of expression. I allow the things I wear to speak boldly and loud for me along with my voice. I enjoy being different and standing out. I am a 6'1 woman who is use to wearing clothing not made for my height but I learned to make it work. I wear things that make most uncomfortable. Isn't that what makes fashion fun?
Vision
EnJoi Vintage was created in 2014 with the "genuine" you in mind. With thrifting being unfamiliar in 2014, I wanted to educate everyone on the benefits of thrifting while giving them confidence to EnJoi the experience. The name EnJoi Vintage came together from a childhood nickname "Enjoi." I mixed it with my love of vintage clothing and Wah Lah, "EnJoi Vintage"! I believe if you want good taste and good quality clothing, vintage clothing is your best option. Clothes from your favorite retail stores just don't last like they use to.
My journey through life has not been easy. Such a cliche thing to say these days but ALL of us know what it's like whether we want to be honest or not. I've been talked about, bullied, stereotyped, racially profiled, discriminated, called the "N" word, pepper sprayed, abused, the list goes on. Not everyone lives to admit that or tell their story! It is becoming very common for people to commit suicide or be killed because they were talked about, bullied, stereotyped, racially profiled, discriminated, called the "N" word, pepper sprayed, abused, and the list goes on.
In 2016, the world experienced the death of Trayvon Martin. A young black son, brother, cousin, friend who's innocent life was taken by a hate crime. This shook the world and my black community. These kind of crimes happened before and after 2016 but this was the start of change for me. I wanted my voice to be heard louder and not wasted.
